This geological and geochemical investigation was carried out to determine the gold potential over 96km2 in the Mersing area, Johor. 98% of the gold particles panned are <1mm in diameter, the majority being <1/4 mm. Primary gold is closely associated with quartz veins within the metasediments. Most of these veins are pyritiferous. The potential for both alluvial and primary gold exists over two anomalous areas, with a combined area of 23 km2; further detailed investigations are recommended prior to mining.
