Malaysia is endowed with abundant surface water resources. However, the distribution of the rainfall in time and space has resulted in limited availability of water of acceptable quantity and quality for water supplies in some parts of the country. This has, in recent years, forced water-resource professionals to explore an exploit alternative sources, including groundwater. In the last decade, a number of groundwater schemes have been developed. This paper deliberates on the distribution of groundwater resources in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, including their development and utilisation for domestic, industrial and agricultural uses.
