<br/><br/> A reconnaissance survey for coal was conducted in 1997 under the Coal Resource Assessment Project Sabah-Seventh Malaysia Plan in the Malibau and Silimpopon-Serudong Basins covering about 2,000 sq.km. This project was implemented jointly with technical assistance from JICA during the first two years from 1997 to 1998 under the GSD-JICA Coal Exploration and Assessment Project in Sabah which was carried out in two phases.
