Detailed investigation at Kg. Dengir, Besut, Terengganu has resulted in the delineation of a ball clay deposit covering 2.0 km. Three clay layers were identified - Upper Ball Clay, Lower Ball Clay and Motted Clay.

The Upper Ball Clay is found in the upper part of the deposit in three lenses averaging 1.0 m in thickness. The average thickness of the overburden 2.0 m. The Upper Ball Clay is grey to yellowish in colour, has medium to high plasticity and medium to good green strength. The clay fired light pink, off whitw, light orange and pink at 1000C and off white, light buff and buff at 1200C. The average water absorption at 1000C is 28.3% and 10.7% at 1200C. The firing ahrinkages at the same temperature are 2.1% and 8.9% respectively.
