The total area covered by the map sheet is about 1,215 km of which 980 km belonging to Malaysia was mapped. The rest of the map sheet area belonging to Changwatt Songkhla of Thailand was not mapped. Two sedimentary rock units were recognised in the mapped area namely, Kubang Pasu Formation and Semanggol Formation. The Kubang Pasu Formation of Carboniferous age is the oldest rock unit in the area. The formation dominates the western part of the area. The unit is predominantly made up of arenaceous and argillaceous rocks with minor amounts of siliceous rocks. The age of this formation was correlated to the rocks of the Kubang Pasu Formation that are well-exposed in the Map Sheet 152, Jitra, which is to the west of the study area. Overlying the Kubang Pasu Formation is the Semanggol Formation which is a flysch type deposit. It consists | ||
