520 _aThe Alkali - Silica Reaction (ASR) is a reaction which occurs over time in concrete between the highly alkaline cement paste and reactive deleterious minerals. There are several granite quarries supplying granite aggregates to the northern Klang Valley. Generally, the granite aggregate is considered not alkali - silica reactive. However, deleterious minerals such as microcrystalline quartz and strained quartz in the cataclasite may be ASR raective.
