520 _aThe study covers only the clay-based industry and does not cover the glass and cement industry. Of the technical ceramics, only the electrical porcelain insulators sector is covered. This report traces the history of early Malaysian pottery and its subsequent decline due to the large imports of porcelain products from China from the 15th century onwards. The modern Malaysian ceramic industry (some people may regard this product as part of the traditional ceramics in the country which have long histories of ceramics manufacture) only started in the early 1960's commencing with the production of mosaic tiles, followed by other products such as sanitary wares, vitreous pipes, wall tiles, tableware, etc.
