Owing to accessibility and security problems which hamper geological investigation, the geology and mineral resources in the Malaysia-Thai border area are not well known. The area in general is largely underlain by sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, granite and alluvium. Cassiterite (tin) remains the most important mineral being mined on both sides of the border.
