Executive Summary | Summary

A reconnaissance survey for ball clay was undertaken over 63001 km2 of the coastal plain and major river basins in Johor. Nine potential areas covering a total of 49 km2 have been identified.
The potential areas are:-
1. Semberong - Paloh - mengkibol flood basin
2. Sg. Muar flood basin
3. Semberong - Lenga flood basin
4. Kahang area
5. Labis area
6. Yong Peng area
7. Kota Tinggi area
8. Ulu Sedili area
9. Johor Bahru area

The thickness of the ball clay occurences in these areas ranges from 0.5 m to 6.0 m while the overburden is 0 m to 4.2 m thick. The plasticity of the ball clays is medium to high and the clays fired off white, light buff, light cream or pinkish white at 1100c.

Follow-up detailed surveys will be carried out by Geological Survey Malaysia under Phase Two of this investigation to delineate, characterize and quantify the ball clay occurences. Priority will be given to the Semberong - Paloh - mengkibol flood basin, the Sg. Muar basin and the Semberong - Lenga flood basin these areas are considered to have the best potential based on their extensive ball clay occurences.
Based on the results of the reconnaissance survey, the total INDICATED RESERVE of ball clay in the areas investigated is estimated to be 28.8 million tonnes. |
