Besides tin and limestone, Perak is also the largest producer of kaolin in Malaysia. Whilst the rules and regulations pertaining to the prospecting and mining of tin ore unambiguous there is no definite policy regarding the exploitation of kaolin. Despite the slow growth of this resource-based industry to date there are 12 kaolin processing plants in the state of Perak. This mineral commodity forms an important raw material is a industriallization in the state, the demand for it is expected to increase.
