The ball clay lenses have an average thickness of 1.5 metres. The clay is light grey in colour, has generally medium to good green strength and medium to good plasticity. Its SiO2 content ranges from 47.0 to 76.2 %. The A12O3 content ranges from 17.5 to 31.0 % and the Fe2O3 content rangesfrom 0.77 to 1.65 %. The fired colour at 1100 C is predominantly off-white. The clay is comparable with some of the ball clays currently being used by the local tile, sanitary ware, table ware and art ware industries.
The measured clay reserve of the deposit based on a 200 metre grid bore hole spacing is estimated at 0.79 million tonnes. The overburden is estimated to be 1.55 million tonnes.
